About our civic engagement

Queen Mary launched its Civic University Agreement in May 2022 following a period of listening, co-analysis, prioritisation and testing with communities across East London and QM staff and students.

The CUA outlines a series of commitments and priority areas for Queen Mary to focus its future attentions and strengths on, alongside our strategic civic partners. Civic objectives feature in the ‘Policy and Strategic Partnerships’ enabling plan under QM Strategy 2030.

The civic delivery plan aims to embed civic work across QM and with our partners and local communities across East London. It has been formed to mobilise the CUA, and includes work already underway, key objectives for the future and measures of success.

Governance

Civic Advisory Board

The Queen Mary Civic Advisory Board supports the direction and oversees the implementation of QM’s Civic University Agreement.

The Civic Advisory Board membership consists of Senior Leaders from within Queen Mary and strategic civic partners across the seven East London boroughs, representing education, health, business, local authorities, and the voluntary, faith and community sectors.

Civic Delivery Group

The Civic Delivery Group supports the implementation of QM’s Civic University Agreement and it’s five priority areas.

For each priority area, we have an academic and professional services co-lead who work with the Civic Engagement Lead to embed QM’s Civic Delivery Plan.
