Drapers' Multi-Academy Trust
Drapers' MAT is co-sponsored by Queen Mary and the Drapers' Company.
In 1887, the Drapers’ Company supported the founding of The People’s Palace Technical Schools in East London and funded its work to provide educational opportunities for people from all backgrounds. The People's Palace was one of Queen Mary’s four founding institutions and continues to inspire our work in East London and beyond.
Drapers’ MAT was formed in 2014, following the sponsorship by Queen Mary and the Drapers’ Company of Drapers’ Academy, a new co-educational school for students aged 11-18, which opened in 2010 in Harold Hill, Havering. From 2014-2016, five schools joined the Drapers’ Multi-Academy Trust (MAT):
- Drapers’ Academy
- Drapers’ Brookside Junior School
- Drapers’ Brookside Infant School
- Drapers’ Maylands Primary School
- Drapers’ Pyrgo Priory Primary School
The Trust aims to be at the heart of the community it serves, delivering an excellent education for all and creating new opportunities for its pupils. The MAT is led by the Chief Executive Officer, Darren Luckhurst, who is a member of the Queen Mary Civic Advisory Board.
As the co-sponsors of the MAT, Queen Mary and the Drapers’ Company nominate a large proportion of the governors and Trustees.
