Polling attitudes of East London to the professions and social mobility
This report sets out the findings of survey research which was conducted with a representative sample of East Londoners.
The report asked a number of questions about careers in the professions – including about the desirability of working in these kinds of roles, and the trustworthiness and diversity of the professional workforce – about social mobility, and about the role of universities and other alternative education providers in all this. Through analysing this data, which includes information on our neighbours’ views of professional careers and the opportunities these might provide, as well as details of their perceptions of inequalities in, and barriers to, accessing these kinds of roles, we hope to give voice to the community we serve and to better understand their needs when it comes to occupation and employment.
Armed with this information, Queen Mary stands in a stronger position to advocate for our community in local and national conversations around employment and skills training policy and provision, and in doing so, to play a role in improving the outcomes and life chances of those living in East London.
