On Thursday 22 May, we celebrated outstanding alumni who have shown innovation, determination and significant social impact through entrepreneurship at the Alumni Entrepreneur Awards.

The event marked the culmination of a competitive nominations process that attracted over 100 submissions from alumni around the globe across six distinct categories. Among those recognised at the ceremony were entrepreneurs whose ventures are driving sustainable growth, delivering meaningful change and making a significant contribution to society.

Award winners shared powerful stories about their entrepreneurial journeys, rooted in ventures based in the UK, Hong Kong, the US, Spain and Uganda, and gave valuable insights into the challenges and rewards of building a business in a global context. Guests also had the opportunity to hear an inspiring keynote address from Dr Ibilola Amao (BSc(Eng) Civil Engineering, 1985), who shared her personal story and insights on innovation, leadership and the global impact of entrepreneurship.

After the ceremony, we caught up with some of our award winners to learn more about how they conceived their business ideas, how they navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship, and their advice for aspiring entrepreneurs:
