Queen Mary University of London recently celebrated the graduation of more than 1,000 students from its joint programmes at prestigious partner universities across China. These newly graduated students join Queen Mary's thriving global alumni community, which now exceeds 240,000 members worldwide, including over 21,000 alumni based in China.

Graduation ceremonies took place at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT), Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) in Xi'an, and Nanchang University (NCU), honouring students who have successfully completed their joint degree programmes. These partnerships underscore Queen Mary's ongoing commitment to fostering global academic collaboration and providing world-class education internationally.

In addition to the graduations, alumni events were hosted in Shanghai, Beijing, and Hong Kong, bringing together over 300 alumni from across several generations. The gatherings offered opportunities for newly graduated students to network and engage with fellow alumni, spanning graduation years from as recent as 2025 back to 1969. Alumni enjoyed reconnecting with old friends and forging new connections at the three receptions.

Queen Mary’s President and Principal, Professor Colin Bailey, and Vice-Principal (Science and Engineering) Professor Wen Wang warmly welcomed alumni at the receptions in Shanghai and Beijing. Professor Bailey shared exciting updates and recent successes, including Queen Mary's significant rise in global league tables and the strategic acquisition of land adjacent to the Whitechapel campus, a development that will notably enhance Queen Mary's capacity for pioneering research in life sciences, expand critical industry partnerships, and drive better health outcomes for local people and communities across the globe.

Reflecting on the successful visit, Professor Bailey expressed pride in the growing alumni community in China, highlighting the important role that alumni play in the university's continued global success and reputation. These events reinforced Queen Mary's strong connections with its extensive network of alumni in China and demonstrated the university’s dedication to lifelong engagement with its graduates around the world.
