Student Story: Conor Venus
Conor is a second-year Computer Science student at Queen Mary University of London. With support from the Annual Fund Performance Scholarship, he is pursuing his passion for technology and preparing for further study in Machine and Deep Learning.

My name is Conor, and I'm in my second year studying Computer Science. I began teaching myself how to programme several years ago, simply out of curiosity and a fascination with how technology works. Since starting my degree, my studies have deepened that interest and helped me build a stronger understanding, particularly through group projects and coursework.
I chose to study Computer Science at Queen Mary because of its strong reputation for research and the emphasis on applying what you learn in real-world contexts. I particularly enjoy the diverse community, as well as the location of the campus, which is good for job prospects.
Looking to the future, I hope to apply for a Master’s degree in Machine and Deep Learning, which, thanks to the Annual Fund Performance Scholarship, is much more of a possibility now. With this award, I have been able to showcase my academic ambition and effort to admissions staff, as well as feel financially supported throughout the process. When I first found out I had been awarded an Annual Fund Performance Scholarship, I was with friends, and together we celebrated! I felt very overwhelmed but incredibly happy and proud that my hard work had been recognised by the university and generous donors.
I would like to say thank you to the donors and staff for recognising my efforts. This scholarship has really alleviated my stress and boosted my confidence to continue striving for the best, and I assure you that I will continue to apply myself to the best of my abilities.
Knowing that there is support and recognition for hard-working students like me makes a huge difference and allows me to focus even more on my academic success and worry less about my funding. Thank you ever so much!
