Annual Fund
From our beginnings as the People’s Palace in 1887, founded to provide learning opportunities to those who needed them most, Queen Mary has remained committed to widening access to education. Today, that mission continues through the generosity of Queen Mary alumni, staff, and friends.
Donations to the Annual Fund provide lifeline support for students facing financial hardship, helping with everyday costs like travel, rent, food, and course materials. More than 60% of our students come from underrepresented or low-income backgrounds, and with the rising cost of living, these pressures are greater than ever.
Your support helps level the playing field by removing the financial barriers that can prevent students from fully engaging in university life. It allows them to focus on their studies, take up new opportunities, and build the future they’ve worked so hard to achieve.

This scholarship has been life changing. Your support lifted the weight of financial stress and allowed me to concentrate on what really matters, my education. For the first time, I can plan for my future with confidence, and without the financial barriers that once stood in my way. Thank you for believing in students like me and opening doors I once thought were out of reach.— Rani, Medical Genetics BSc
Graduation is an important milestone for every student. It marks the end of years of study and the beginning of a new chapter. It is a time to celebrate achievements and create lasting memories with family and friends, but for some students, the cost of hiring a cap and gown can be a barrier to attending their own ceremony.
The Cap and Gown Fund supports Care Experienced and Estranged students at Queen Mary by covering gown hire, ensuring financial hardship doesn’t prevent them from attending their graduation.
Stand with our Sanctuary Students
Around the world, more people than ever are being forced to flee conflict and persecution in search of safety and stability.
The Queen Mary Sanctuary Support Fund provides vital financial assistance to students seeking asylum or with temporary immigration status, helping to cover tuition fees, living costs, and study materials. Many of our sanctuary scholars have endured incredible hardship before arriving on campus. Your support gives them the stability and security to focus on their studies and build a brighter future.
