Queen Mary Founders' Day 2025

Join Professor Colin Bailey CBE, President and Principal of Queen Mary University of London, and colleagues for an evening of celebration to mark our second Founders' Day event on Wednesday 9 July 2025.

Queen Mary University of London’s founding institutions - Queen Mary College, St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College, Westfield College and The London Hospital Medical College - were all established separately to change society for the better, and improve the lives of people with less privilege. This same ambition and the values of our founding institutions continue to shape who we are today - a renowned inclusive Russell Group University with a difference, which is:

  • 1st in the UK for social mobility 
  • Rated ‘outstanding’ in education across all categories by Ofsted
  • 24th in the world for the quality of our research 
  • 12th in the world for international outlook (engagement)
  • home to a wonderfully diverse community of staff, students, and alumni from over 170 nationalities

2025 is a significant year as we celebrate some important milestones for our University and the founding institutions, including:

  • 240 years since The London Hospital Medical College was founded
  • 60 years since the founding of our School of Economics and Finance and our School of Law
  • 45 years of our Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS)
  • 40 years of providing dental hygiene and therapy training
  • 30 years since our four founding institutions successfully merged to create one University - Queen Mary University of London

At the event, you will be able to hear from senior Queen Mary University figures and listen to the inspiring personal stories of members of our alumni community, who will be receiving honorary degrees in recognition of their distinguished careers and outstanding contributions to society.

You will also be able to learn about our ground-breaking research and innovation from our world-leading staff and have the opportunity to meet some of our exceptional current students.
