The School of International Arbitration, Centre of Commercial Law Studies at Queen Mary University of London (the SIA) and Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) were founded in London and Hong Kong respectively in 1985.

In the past four decades, there have been significant developments in international arbitration in the two common law jurisdictions. In celebration of our institution's 40th anniversaries, we jointly introduced a seminar series featuring preeminent speakers to discuss some of the most fascinating topics in international arbitration through the lens of comparative law.

Each session featured two main presenters, one from Asia and one from Europe, followed by commentaries from other experts.

Speakers:

  • Professor Julian DM Lew KC, Independent Arbitrator, Twenty Essex / Head, SIA
  • David W. Rivkin, Independent Arbitrator, Arbitration Chambers / Co-chair, HKIAC
  • Robert S. Pe, Independent Arbitrator, Arbitration Chambers
  • Audley Sheppard KC, Independent Arbitrator, Twenty Essex
