Profile
Ernie is PhD student currently developing and validating a novel therapeutic for the treatment of osteoarthritis. With a strong foundation in biotechnology, Ernie is driven to discover innovative ways of targeting osteoarthritis pathophysiology and to help alleviate the problems posed by this debilitating joint disease. In particular, he is focusing on ROR2 blockade to stimulate cartilage growth while shedding light on the intricate molecular pathways that underly the mechanism.
Ernie obtained his undergraduate degree in Biotechnology where he developed a strong interest in the field of regenerative medicine, prompting his choice to pursue an MRes in Tissue Engineering for Regenerative Medicine. Both degrees were obtained from the University of Manchester.
Following the MRes, Ernie transitioned into industry where he joined a dynamic biotech start-up for 3 years. Here, he played a pivotal role in the progression of a biopharmaceutical through GMP manufacture and into phase I clinical trials and gained extensive experience in performing cutting-edge translational research. Now he has returned to academia to have control of his own regenerative medicine project where he wishes to make significant contributions to field and to improve the livelihood of those suffering with osteoarthritis.
