Profile

Jessica is a Research Technician currently working with Prof. Francesco Dell’accio and Dr Suzanne E. Eldridge to better understand disease pathogenesis of several rheumatological conditions, including osteoarthritis, to develop novel therapeutics and maximise the therapeutic utility of existing therapies for those affected.

She has done her final year research on evaluating the causal links between cancer and Alzheimer’s disease through the two-sample Mendelian Randomisation study. Statistical analyses on genetic variants using R were performed to evaluate if an individual with cancer history is protected from developing AD at a later age.

She worked as a Research Technician in the Myers group at Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics, University of Oxford, where she primarily investigated the mechanism of gene expression regulation in meiotic synapsis and recombination, in mice. Her main objective was to identify the interaction between proteins to explain how elements are recruited to repair the double-strand breaks.

She has also worked in a clinical environment as a clinical research staff at a hospital as part of an internship programme, which led her to more voluntary work at Camillian Homes, home for disabled children, where she worked to support disabled orphans with personal care needs.

Gaining experience in various fields of science, one thing that excites Jessica is to investigate the less understood underlying mechanisms of diseases or health problems. She hopes that her work in research will help those affected in any possible way. In her spare time, she can be found either in bed or on courts.
