Tuberculosis and Diabetes
Diabetes is linked to increased tuberculosis risk, poor outcomes and drug resistance, while tuberculosis may worsen diabetes. We study underlying mechanisms using data from clinical cohorts (mostly in Indonesia) and in vitro models. We are also conducting a Phase 3 clinical trial to examine possible benefits of tuberculosis preventive therapy in people with diabetes in Uganda and Tanzania.
