CCLS Alumnus Awarded IBA Scholarship for Legal AI Research

Yash Jangid, (Commercial and Corporate Law LLM, 2023) has been awarded the International Bar Association (IBA) Academic and Professional Development Scholarship 2025 by the International Bar Association. The scholarship recognises his research, “Empowering the Next Generation: Legal Education in the Age of AI, Authoritarianism, and Digital Complexity,” and supports his participation in the IBA Annual Conference in Toronto, Canada.
Yash graduated from CCLS with a Distinction in 2023, his studies whilst at CCLS included advanced modules in international finance, economic law, economic crime, and WTO law. His dissertation, “Governing Digital Trade at the WTO: Navigating Tensions Between Innovation and Regulation,” critically examined the legal challenges of regulating cross-border digital trade in an increasingly digitised world.
He also showed a consistent commitment to interdisciplinary learning and public engagement. In collaboration with the Queen Mary Students' Union, he led the organisation of “Idea for Humanity: AI Is Evolving Education,” a student-led event exploring the impact of artificial intelligence on education, law, and society.
Since leaving CCLS, Yash was involved in restoring the statue of Thiruvalluvar, a revered Tamil poet and philosopher, at SOAS University of London. His efforts helped secure a £20,000 institutional grant and led to the statue’s rededication, an initiative covered by Republic World (Media House).
Yash has been a recipient of the Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship for Academic Excellence 2022, awarded by the Government of Rajasthan in India. A registered Advocate with the Bar Council of India, Yash regularly appears before the Supreme Court of India and the High Court of Rajasthan. He is currently pursuing his barrister qualification in the United Kingdom as a student member of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple and now aims to establish the first Centre for Arbitration and Digital Justice in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, using technology to expand access to legal services in underserved regions.
