Dr. Natalie Corthésy Wins Principal's Award for Research Impact

CCLS alumna won the Principal’s award for 'Research Project with the Greatest Business/Economic/Development Impact’.

On March 13, 2025, Dr Natalie Corthésy (Commercial Law PhD, 2019), Head of the CCLS Alumni Caribbean Chapter, and Senior Lecturer at The Faculty of Law, The University of the West Indies Mona Campus, Jamaica (UWI), won the Principal’s award for 'Research Project with the Greatest Business/Economic/Development Impact’. The research project entitled “Maximising The Benefits Of Origin Products In An Emerging Economy - The Impact Of Geographical Indication Protection In Jamaica”​ was the result of a collaboration between UWI and City University London led by Dr Corthésy and Professor Enrico Bonadio, and comprised of team members Dr. Marc Mimler (Intellectual Property LLM, 2008 and Commercial law PhD, 2015), Dianne Daley McClure, Dr. Yentyl Williams, Ms Shadae Deslandes and Ms. Odesha Coates. Dr Corthésy will be taking up two Visiting Researcher positions at QMUL and The British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL) in the academic year 2025-2026. She will be hosting a book launch event on September 2, 2025 for her co-edited book on IP and Cannabis published by Edward Elgar, and a workshop on “IP Innovation in Small States – A Caribbean Outlook” at BIICL on September 3, 2025. Details of both events to follow.
