Queen Mary Expands Judicial Training Collaboration with Thailand
Professor Helen Bailey, Vice-Principal International at QMUL, welcomed a senior delegation from the Office of the Judiciary of Thailand on Thursday 22 May, for the formal signing of an agreement that strengthens a long-standing partnership in judicial education with the CCLS.
The delegation was led by Mr Thiratai Charoenwong, Secretary General of the Office of the Judiciary, alongside Mr Rathavich Ariyapachpol, Chief Judge of the Office of the President of the Supreme Court, and Miss Kamonchanok Katinasamit, Judge of the Office of the President of the Supreme Court. They were hosted by Professor Helen Bailey, Professor Ioannis Kokkoris, Director of CCLS, and colleagues from the Global Engagement Office and CCLS’s international programmes team. The agreement marks a key step in a collaboration that began in 2018, formalising ongoing joint efforts to deliver executive legal education and judicial training. To date, Queen Mary has hosted numerous training cohorts of Thai judges, including senior justices from the Supreme Court, with the next cohort of approximately 25 judges to begin training at Queen Mary in September 2025.
Discussions also focused on shared priorities and future opportunities, including the adaptation of legal training to meet the specific needs of the Thai judiciary, strengthening contextual learning, and addressing emerging legal issues relevant to both the UK and Thailand.
