Her thesis, entitled: "Towards Harmonisation of Multimodal Transport Law in ASEAN", was examined by Professor George Leloudas from Swansea University and Dr Andromachi Georgosouli from Queen Mary.

Nuanchan's thesis concentrates on the ASEAN Framework Agreement on Multimodal Transport (AFAMT). Its primary purpose is to identify and critically assess effective strategies for overcoming the multifaceted barriers that hinder the establishment of a harmonised and operational multimodal transport regime across the ten ASEAN member states. This evaluation considers ASEAN's unique socio-economic and legal contexts while drawing lessons from the EU's experience. Ultimately, the thesis aims to provide actionable recommendations for accelerating the implementation of AFAMT and promoting seamless cross-border trade and connectivity within the ASEAN region.

To support this overarching aim, the thesis employs the following four strands of analysis:

  • examines the nexus of legal harmonisation, mutual recognition and cross-border trade facilitation, particularly in reference to the EU single market experience;
  • explores the rationale and necessity for multimodal transport harmonisation in the context of ASEAN;
  • assesses the progress and gaps in legal harmonisation of multimodal transport under AFAMT; and
  • identifies and examines the impediments to the full implementation of AFAMT.

ISALI congratulates Nuanchan on her original contribution to knowledge and thanks her dearly for being a devoted member of ISALI.
