Clearing

How to apply by phone

You can apply via Clearing by calling our dedicated Clearing hotline.

What to expect on the call

We understand this can be a stressful time – take your time, and know we’re here to help. Try to call from a quiet place where you can relax and won’t feel rushed.

Here's what'll happen when you get through to us:

  • We’ll ask for your personal details and the course you’re interested in.
  • We’ll check if the course is still available through Clearing.
  • We’ll confirm whether you meet the entry requirements.
  • If you don’t meet the requirements, we may suggest similar courses you are eligible for.
  • Feel free to ask any questions – our advisers are here to help.
  • If you’re speaking with multiple universities, you may receive more than one unofficial Clearing offer.
  • Gather as much information as you need to make the right decision for you.

Information to have ready

When you call us, have all the information ready to hand. You’ll need the following:

  • UCAS ID number
  • Grades achieved
  • Course(s) you’re interested in (including the course code)
  • Name, date of birth, phone number and other relevant information. We may need to check these for security and confidentiality

If you want someone to call on your behalf, such as your parent or guardian, we will need your authorisation to speak to them. If they aren’t already listed as your nominated contact on UCAS, you’ll need to be on hand to give us permission before we can speak to them.

Before you call, think about any questions you might like to ask and write them down so that you don’t forget. We would also recommend that you have something to write on during the call, as you may want to take notes.

Receiving and accepting an offer

  • If we can, we'll make you a verbal provisional offer over the phone and then send you a follow up email with the details.
  • If we can't make a decision straight away then we will take all your details and respond to your application by email as quickly as we can. This might be because we need admissions colleagues from the academic school to review your application.
  • Your provisional offer email will give you instructions on how to accept your Clearing place. This will include adding your Clearing offer on UCAS so we can do our final checks.
