Franziska Fay is assistant professor of political anthropology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany. She holds a PhD in social anthropology from SOAS, London, and an MA in Education and Swahili from the University of Frankfurt. Fay has conducted research on child protection in Zanzibar, young Swahili-speakers of the socalled Zanzibar Diaspora in Oman, and recently started working on contemporary feminist political practice in Tanzania mainland. Her work engages social and linguistic anthropology, Feminist Indian Ocean Studies, as well as arts-based and feminist ethnographic approaches. Her book "Disputing Discipline: Child Protection, Punishment and Piety in Zanzibar Schools" was published by Rutgers University Press (2021).
