Profile
My primary research has examined the ways that peer interactions are defined and interpreted by students, teachers, and staff members within elementary schools. This work has been published in journals including the International Journal of Bullying Prevention, the British Journal of Sociology of Education, and Childhood, among others, and is also featured in The Sociology of Bullying: Power, Status, and Aggression Among Adolescents, edited by Chris Donoghue (2022). Previous research has explored the use of gossip in school staff meetings, the depictions of professors in popular films, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. With Ingrid Castro and Melissa Swauger, I co-edited Researching Children and Youth: Methodological Issues, Strategies, and Innovations in 2017. My current projects focus on college students, including an exploration of their experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.
