Profile
My interdisciplinary research, based on ethnographic methods and socio-legal analysis and rooted in critical feminist and postcolonial perspectives, is structured around two broad concerns:
- How postcolonial law, NGOs, and global anti-trafficking campaigns converge to approach prostitution through the contrasting lenses of victimhood and immorality. This is the focus of my forthcoming book and published journal articles.
- How postcolonial law, NGOs, and global humanitarian campaigns converge to approach childhood as a category of vulnerability. This is the focus of a published journal article on the politics of rescuing young domestic workers in India, and my current and future research on the construction of orphanhood and child labor as humanitarian issues.
