Queen Mary wins Meta x Bodyswaps Healthcare Education Grant to boost immersive and simulated learning through Artificial Intelligence

We’re excited to share some big news. Queen Mary has been awarded the Healthcare Education Grant by Meta x Bodyswaps – worth circa.£26,000, a successful bid led by FMD’s This puts us among a selected group of institutions piloting how immersive learning can transform healthcare education. Bodyswaps is the leading provider of AI-powered immersive simulations for education and healthcare.

Bodyswaps is an immersive learning platform that uses AI-powered roleplay to help learners develop essential communication and interpersonal skills through realistic, interactive simulations. Through this grant, we’ll be getting full access to the platform, including unlimited user access across PC, mobile, and VR. We’ll also receive two Meta Quest 3 headsets to bring the experience into our classrooms and labs. The platform includes a wide range of roleplay modules focused on areas like clinical communication and managing difficult conversations. With the Learning Pathway Builder, we’ll be able to customise scenarios to fit our curriculum and create engaging, skills-based learning experiences for our students.

This project ties directly into our FMD’s Immersive Learning Strategy, which sets out a bold vision for embedding immersive technologies into the MBBS and BDS curriculum. At the heart of this strategy is the newly established Immersive Learning Lab – a space where pedagogy, technology and innovation come together to shape the future of healthcare education. With earlier projects like TINALP and CenarioVR already paving the way, the grant gives us the opportunity to build on that momentum and scale our ambitions even further.

Looking ahead, this partnership puts FMD at the forefront of digital healthcare education. It opens doors to more collaboration, immersive learning experiences, and better preparation for real-world clinical practice. We can’t wait to get started – and we’ll be sharing updates as we go.
