Course Description

Healthcare Leadership Foundations is a tailored, online, four-week continuing professional development course, specifically designed for aspiring leaders and professionals in the public and private healthcare sectors.

In this course you will explore contemporary and foundational leadership concepts such as power dynamics, authenticity, values, conflict and intersectionality in healthcare leadership. You will also develop practical skills in self-leadership, network mapping, action planning and peer coaching, which will enable you to effectively navigate complex leadership challenges in healthcare systems.

Complete in just 4 weeks, with an optional extension to 9 weeks through personalised coaching, while balancing your studies with a busy professional life. Throughout, you will have a chance to network in real-time and off-line with likeminded professionals, industry experts, and esteemed academics in the healthcare sector, fostering valuable professional relationships and knowledge exchange. By design and facilitation, the course offers peer coaching opportunities to foster interaction and reflective practice. Benefit from lifelong learning following the course, enabling continuous career growth and long-term success in healthcare leadership roles. You can submit an optional leadership action plan and receive one-to-one, tailored expert feedback.

By the end of this leadership course, you will be able to:

  1. Appraise leadership theories and concepts including, power, influence and vision in the context of your own professional practice
  2. Evaluate your own self-leadership by applying authenticity and intersectionality principles, and leadership values
  3. Recognise the different leader and leadership skills required to lead and manage change and conflict
  4. Develop leadership network mapping, peer coaching and action planning practical skills

Core study will be completed in 4 weeks while optional study will continue until the end of Week 9 through the submission of Action Plan and personalised feedback.

This course is offered by Queen Mary University of London, a top 5 London University (THE 2025).

The Royal College of Surgeons of England and General Dental Council (GDC) have awarded up to 16 CPD points for this course. 

Assessment and certification

Course certification requires engagement with core self-paced activities, the completion of weekly quizzes, written reflections and contributions to discussions.

You will receive a digital Certificate of Attendance upon completion of the course.

Additionally, you will also receive a digital General Dental Council (GDC) certificate confirming verifiable 16 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points from the Institute of Dentistry - Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL on successful completion of the course, should you require.
