Apply to be the new Queen Mary Pint of Science Co-Coordinator

Take on a central role in planning and delivering the exciting Pint of Science festival.

Published:

The Queen Mary Pint of Science team are looking for a new Co-Coordinator to join them from September to May to deliver the 2026 festival at Queen Mary.

Pint of Science is the world’s largest grassroots science festival, bringing researchers out of the lab and into pubs, cafés, and other informal venues to share their science in an engaging, accessible way. Every May, thousands of scientists across more than 25 countries participate in this unique public engagement event.

At Queen Mary, our Pint of Science events are organised entirely by volunteers – mostly PhD students and postdocs – to inspire curiosity, reduce misconceptions about research, and strengthen links between science and the community. The Co-Coordinator role is a fantastic public engagement and leadership opportunity for someone passionate about bringing science to the public.

What’s involved:

  • Approximately 2-5 hours per month (flexible, increases slightly in the run-up to the festival in May).
  • Coordinating a team of volunteer event managers.
  • Liaising with London Chapter Pint of Science organisers and local venues.
  • Overseeing event themes, speakers, and publicity.

What you’ll gain:

  • Hands-on public engagement experience (counts towards PGR training points).
  • Leadership and project management skills.
  • A strong addition to your CV for academia, industry, and outreach roles.
  • The satisfaction of bringing science to the community in a fun, inclusive way.

Commitment: September – May.
This is a volunteer role that can be held for a single festival year or multiple years if you wish to continue.

How to express interest:
Please fill in this short survey by the end of September: https://forms.office.com/e/iX25mA2DYU

The team look forward to welcoming someone enthusiastic, organised, and full of ideas to the team!
