MAC 2025: Advances in Mitochondrial Mechanisms and Therapy
When: Wednesday, December 3, 2025 - Friday, December 5, 2025, 1:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Where: Morris Lecture Theatre, Robin Brooke Centre. St Bartholomew's Hospital, West Smithfield, London EC1A 2BE, William Harvey Research Institute, St Bartholomew's Hospital Site

Summary
The meeting will run over three days (one in full and two half-days), it will revolve around three main topics:
- Mitochondrial Biology
- Mitochondrial role in Pathology
- Mitochondrial Pharmacology and Therapeutic advances.
It is an occasion for scientific exchange which will sit under the overall arching umbrella of the community within the community that has established and supported the series of MAC meetings whose acronym refers to Mitochondria, Ageing and Cancer.
The format will see invited talks complemented by selected ones from the abstracts. Poster sessions will also run together with occasions for interactions with the leaders in the field who have agreed to contribute to the event.
It has set the most immediate outcomes in:
- Raising interest in the topic
- Informing attendees of the frontiers in mitochondrial research
- Consolidating a national and international mitochondrial community
- Delineating key aspects of interest on which to establish collaborative networks for major grant applications.
Event description
Mitochondria are essential to cellular health, and a growing number of diseases have been linked to mitochondrial dysfunction, making these organelles a critical focus in the pursuit of precision medicine. This meeting aims to highlight the latest advances in mitochondrial research and explore how this rapidly expanding knowledge can be leveraged for medical innovation.
Leading national and international experts will come together to present and discuss their findings, fostering inspiration and new insights. The meeting will cover cutting-edge developments in mitochondrial science, diagnostic techniques, and pharmacological strategies related to therapeutic interventions.
Our goal is to create a platform that engages specialists while also being accessible to a wider audience. This initiative is designed to support the scientific community working on biomedical research and translational medicine.
The meeting will offer valuable insights into the state of mitochondrial medicine, making it especially relevant for graduate students, early-career researchers, and clinical fellows. Additionally, it will provide knowledge of broad relevance to professionals in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries.
