Partnerships
The City Centre welcomes inquiries from parties and institutions outside of academia interested in research partnership. In particular, we are eager to develop collaborative studentships through the AHRC and ESRC doctoral awards.
Citizens UK
- Project: Housing Access and Digital Transitions: A Participatory Study with First-Time Home Seekers in Tower Hamlets. LISS DTP Collaborative Studentship. Supervised by Rachel Humphris and Elizabeth Storer (Geography). This project will begin in September 2025.
East End Trades Guild
- Project: Uncertainty Under the Arches: Network Rail’s Portfolio Sell-Off and the Possibilities for Public Good. ESRC CASE Award. Devi Norberg, supervised by Regan Koch and Will Monteith (Geography).
Museum of London
- Project: Meat, masculinity and the marketplace: Smithfield in the late 20th century. ESRC CASES Award. Jack Hanlon, supervised by Regan Koch, Alastair Owens and Will Monteith (Geography).
PAR-CITY (Participation in the City)
- PAR-CITY brings together 25 researchers from across the globe to examine cities' responses to current challenges on democracy, governance and trust. PAR-CITY has an interdisciplinary perspective and also focuses on the role of digital media, aiming to provide new insight into urban participatory innovations (UPIs). Dr Sam Halvorsen, affiliated to the City Centre, is the Lead-PI of the project. More information can be found here.

- Project: Hospitality as Intangible Cultural Heritage? Concept and Practice in La Chapelle, Paris. AHRC Case Award. Rachele, supervised by Alison Blunt (Geography) and Anna-Louise Milne (ULIP).
Swadhinata Trust
- Project: Recalling 1978: Bengali Activism, the Politics of Memory and the Legacies of Anti-Racist Struggle in East London. AHRC CASE Award. Ansar Ullah, supervised by Sam Halvorsen and Alastair Owens (Geography).
University of Sanctuary
- Rachel Humphris, member of the Advisory Board of the City Centre, is the Chair of the QMUL Sanctuary Group.
