Profile

I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate, working with Dr Sydney Calkin and Dr Alvaro Martinez Lacabe on the project ‘Pharmaceutical Geographies of Self-Managed Sexual Health’. As part of this project, I focus on 'DIY' hormone use among trans people, exploring how trans people self-manage their health and hormone needs in the absence of support from institutional medicine, and how they access or make hormone pharmaceutical products.

Research Interests:

My research interests operate at the intersections of health sociology, gender and trans studies, feminist science and technology studies, and governance and regulation studies. I have a PhD in Sociology from the Australian National University, where I explored embodiment practices of trans men. Alongside my academic work I have a decade of experience in trans communities in Australia, and I have worked professionally in the NGO sector and in government, including as Assistant Director in the ACT Government Office of LGBTIQA+ Affairs. In these roles I contributed to numerous legislative and regulatory reforms, including on gender recognition, intersex healthcare, and human rights provisions.
