Mo Tausif (Water and Environmental Management, MSc)

Studying the subjects I am passionate about, combined with the excellent quality of teaching and the structure and content of the modules made my time at Queen Mary enjoyable and fulfilling. I highly recommend the MSc Water and Environmental Management programme to anyone interested in a career in the industry.

How did your degree support you in securing your job role following your studies?

The time I spent at Queen Mary University of London participating in the MSc Water and Environmental Management programme was invaluable to the start of my career in the industry. The individual research project module was particularly helpful as it gave me the opportunity to partner with Atkins Global to deliver a dissertation analysing sewer overflow discharges in the Evenlode Catchment, Oxfordshire, and exploring natural flood management methods to reduce sewer inundation. This was pivotal in me securing the work I do now as a graduate modeller at RPS, now part of Tetra Tech, to survey and model wastewater systems, their water quality impacts in rivers, and explore solutions to reduce sewer overflows.

What skills did you develop through your degree?

The programme, bolstered by the university’s teaching from experienced lecturers, was packed with collaborative activities and opportunities to develop my professional skills including technical skills in GIS, flood modelling, data analysis. Researching the scientific knowledge in subjects like river restoration, flood risk management, and environmental pollution as well as engaging with various industry practitioners on the most recent developments and real-world case studies greatly enriched my learning experience and also encouraged me to volunteer for my local river action group and Thames21.
