National Student Survey results

The School of Geography at Queen Mary University of London received outstanding feedback in the 2025 National Student Survey (NSS), reaffirming its position as a national leader in student satisfaction, teaching quality, and academic support.

In this independent, anonymous survey of final-year students across the UK, the School again ranked among the top institutions in the country for the overall quality of its Geography, Environmental Science, and Human Geography courses — and led London and Russell Group universities in several key categories.

What the latest NSS results say about studying at the School of Geography: 

• We listen to you: The School ranks 1st in the Russell Group for providing the right opportunities to give feedback on your course, and 2nd in the Russell Group for valuing student opinions about their course (Geography, Earth and Environmental Studies). It is also the top among all London universities for student voice, and leads London’s Russell Group universities for assessment and feedback. Environmental Science students reported 100% satisfaction with their feedback opportunities — the joint highest in the UK – and rated the School in the top 3 of the Russell Group for staff responding to student feedback.
• We support you with accessible, expert staff: 100% of Human Geography students said staff are good at explaining things and easy to contact when needed, ranking the programme joint 1st nationally on both measures. Human Geography is also top in London for student support. 
• We offer fair, well-organised courses: The School is ranked in the top 10 of the Russell Group for course organisation and management (Geography, Earth and Environmental Studies). Human Geography students also rated their programme in the top 10 nationally for academic support and fairness of marking and assessment.  
• We assess fairly and provide timely, helpful feedback: We ranked joint 2nd in the Russell Group and top in London for Assessment and Feedback (Geography, Earth and Environmental Studies). Geography was in the top 5 nationally for feedback returned on time, and in the top 10 for use of assessments that reflect what you’ve learned.   
• We offer outstanding teaching and learning experiences: The School ranks in the top 5 within the Russell Group for learning opportunities (Geography, Earth and Environmental Studies), and is the leading institution in London for teaching, learning, assessment, support, organisation, and student voice in Environmental Science.
• We prepare you for the future: With a 5th place ranking in the Russell Group for developing the skills and knowledge needed beyond university (Geography, Earth and Environmental Studies), students can be confident in the School’s ability to prepare them for successful careers and further study.
