Vinayak Chaturvedi (UC Irvine) discusses his new book on VD Savarkar with Chris Moffat (QMUL)
The QMUL South Asia Forum is pleased to host this in-person seminar with Vinayak Chaturvedi on his new book Hindutva and Violence (SUNY Press, 2022). The book presents an intellectual history of VD Savarkar, the most controversial Indian political thinker of the 20th century and a key architect of modern Hindu nationalism.
Vinayak Chaturvedi is Professor of History at the University of California, Irvine. He is the author of Peasant Pasts: History and Memory in Western India (UC Press, 2007) and the editor of Mapping Subaltern Studies and the Postcolonial (Verso, 2000) and The Pandemic: Perspectives on Asia(AAS, 2020).
Chris Moffat is Senior Lecturer in South Asian History at Queen Mary University of London and the author of India's Revolutionary Inheritance: Politics and the Promise of Bhagat Singh (CUP, 2019).
