First Aid at Work (FAA Level 3 Award - 3 days) – HS035
Course Summary
This FAA Level 3 National Award in First Aid at Work is a comprehensive course that covers a wide range of first aid incidents, emergencies and ill health scenarios, enabling all participants to deal with incidents and emergencies with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way.
Duration
This is a three-day course, 09:00-17:00 hrs.
Delivery
This is an in-person classroom-based course.
Delegates
This course is open to all Queen Mary permanent staff and is ideal for higher or advanced level hazards (e.g. laboratory’s, workshops, working at height or with electricity) or where your needs assessment identifies a requirement to provide additional training, covering a broad syllabus including the recognition and treatment of a wider range of conditions. Places are allocated on a business need basis. For example, if one school has sufficient mental health first aiders then places on the courses are allocated elsewhere. Although these courses can go towards someone’s CPD and is ideal for many roles it is not their primary function, which is to ensure Queen Mary is compliant under The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and the First Aid Regulations 1981.

- Legalities, responsibilities and reporting
- Control of bleeding
- Poisoning
- Asthma
- Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
- Shock (including Anaphylaxis)
- Bandaging
- Diabetes
- Fractures and spinal injuries
- Heart attacks
- Choking
- Stroke
- Resuscitation and AED awareness
- Head injuries
- Eye injuries
- Burns
- Assessment of the situation
- Sprains and strains
- Chest injuries
- Epilepsy
A Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment. This qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement. It is strongly recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training. The learner will need to complete the two-day HS036 First Aid at Work Re-Qualification course to requalify for a further three years.
