First Aid for Lab Workers - HS042

Course Summary 
This course will teach you how to deal with some of the first aid incidents that can occur in a laboratory.  Should you sustain an injury you will need to know how to deal with it yourself in the first instance. There is also an expectation that you will offer assistance to a colleague when requested to do so, this may be simply talking them through the necessary first aid treatment that they can then carry out themselves.

This is a self-directed online course. 

Delegates  
This course is aimed at staff and students who work in a Queen Mary laboratory. There is no requirement for you to have had any first aid training prior to completing the module.   

 

Summary Outcome / Content 
A range of subjects are covered including: 

  • Information on contacting First Aiders, Security and the Emergency Medical Services.  
  • Assessing, dealing with and reporting an incident. 
  • Managing an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally. 
  • How to recognise and assist a casualty who is experiencing anaphylaxis. 
  • To recognise and assist with laboratory specific injuries e.g. bleeding, burns, biological contamination.  

A completion certificate can be downloaded once the learner has gained an 80% pass mark in the learner understanding quiz.
