Data protection and confidentiality
The Institute of Health Science Education (IHSE) Student Support Service is confidential.
However, for us to support you best, it could be beneficial to share some of your information with other staff members within the school, for example academic staff in the Subject Examination Board (SEBs) meetings following exam season.
We ask all students to complete our data consent form, regardless of whether you are currently using the service. The data consent form allows you to indicate who you are comfortable sharing your information with, helping to avoid repeated email requests for consent. You can also specify whether you would like your emergency contact to be notified in the event of significant concerns about your wellbeing.
To receive the link to the data consent form, please email our team on ihse-student-support@qmul.ac.uk. Once we are in receipt your completed form, we understand how you would like us to share your data.
We understand that you may change your mind about sharing your information at any point during your studies. If you wish to update your preferences, simply complete the data consent form again, and we will update your records accordingly.
Only in exceptionally rare circumstances will we share your data without your consent. There are two specific situations where this may occur:
- Fitness to Study policy – if you meet the threshold outlined in the Fitness to Study policy, we are required to share relevant information with designated colleagues at Queen Mary University. You can find more information about the Fitness to Study process on Queen Mary's Policies by category webpage, it titled Enhanced Support for a Students' Fitness to Study Policy, located in the Other subsection in the Teaching, learning and assessment category.
- At immediate risk - if you are at immediate risk of harming yourself or others, we may need to share information in order to ensure the safety of yourself or others.
