Jen

Jen (she/her) joined the team in March 2022 as Institute of Health Science Education’s first Student Support Officer and she now works as the service manager.

Jen’s wellbeing tip:

Find an activity that you enjoy- one that keeps you present -prioritize it and do it regularly. I was always sceptical about mindfulness as a university student, I felt like I wasn’t doing it right and didn’t have time for it. Eventually, I realised that I simply hadn’t found a mindfulness activity which I truly enjoyed.

Some mindfulness activities I love and practice at least weekly include hot yoga, journaling, scrapbooking, and meditating.

How Jen manages feelings of overwhelm:

Most of the time when I’m feeling overwhelmed, I find myself indoors, in front of either a laptop or phone screen. I therefore like to get outside at the earliest opportunity. Whether it's a walk to the shop, a gym visit, or catching up with a friend while strolling through one of London’s many beautiful parks, stepping outside helps reset my mind.

I’ve often heard the phrase ‘never trust an inside thought,’ and repeating it to myself when I feel overwhelmed serves as a simple and yet effective reminder to get outside and regain perspective.
