Results release support

At the end of each academic year, all Institute of Health Science Education (IHSE) students sit summative exams and we provide tailored support following the release of results.

While we operate a year-round service, where IHSE students are welcome to access our support at any time, we particularly focus our resources to support Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Graduate Entry Programme (GEP), students during the results release period (April to September).

For students on the MSc Physician Associates (PA) programme, the PA team provide immediate results release support. However, should you want support in addition to this, please email our service directly on ihse-student-support@qmul.ac.uk with your availability and we will book you in for an appointment with a member of the team.

If you are a student studying MBBS in Malta, you should contact the Malta Student Academic and Pastoral Support team for support and guidance following the release of results.

Support for unsuccessful MBBS and GEP students

Following the release of results via the Subject Examination Board (SEB) letters, immediate support is available for students who have not been successful in their exams. Our service is specifically focused on supporting these throughout results day and the following week. In addition to immediate support, other IHSE teams provide academic remediation sessions to best prepare students for the re-sit period, information about the remediation support is made available shortly after results release.

We understand that some students may not feel ready to speak to the university right away. That's why we proactively reach out within one working day of results being released to check in and offer support.

Booking a results release appointment

If you studying on either the MBBS or GEP programme, you can book a results release appointment using this MS Teams booking link. If you experience issues when booking a results release appointment, please email us at ihse-student-support@qmul.ac.uk with your availability, and we'll schedule the appointment for you.

Please note results release appointments are specifically for students who were unsuccessful in their exams. If you have any questions or would like to access support after passing your exams, you're still very welcome to get in touch - please email us at ihse-student-support@qmul.ac.uk

What can be discussed?

You can talk to a member of our team about anything that’s on your mind. Common topics include:

  • Managing emotions such as anger, disappointment, or anxiety
  • Practical questions about the re-sit period or repeating the year
  • Guidance on the appeals process, including referrals to the appropriate Queen Mary teams

The most important thing to remember

Exams are a part of the learning journey - they do not define your worth or your future. Setbacks are normal, especially in a demanding field like medicine. What matters most is how you respond, learn and grow from the experience.

Many successful IHSE graduates have faced challenges, including exam failure, and have gone on to have fulfilling and successful careers in healthcare.
