With a grant from the IHSS Global Epistemologies Research programme (headed by Dr Mario Slugan, School of the Arts), Dr Ananya Mishra collaborated on a project on Kondh song translations in July 2024.

The project is based in Jeypore and Koraput, South Odisha (India), for archiving Kondh bard Salu Majhi’s epical songs and co-translating them with Arna Majhi and Rabishankar Pradhan from the Kui language to a bridge language (Odia), before translating them into English. The project is part of Ananya Mishra’s ongoing research work since 2017. They translated one song cycle of Salu Majhi's epics, and preliminary reading reveals one of the origin stories prevalent in Kondh communities of Kucheipadar. Further conversations and interviews with Salu Majhi also archive a tradition of naming places and Indigenous goddesses particular to the Kondh people of Kucheipadar, narrating a history of coming to the place, important to the theoretical ideas of Indigeneity in East India.

A part of the audiovisual work and translations was shared as part of a paper presented by Ananya at a conference on Ecology, Aesthetics and Everyday Cultures of Modernity, that took place  110 - 11 July 2023, invited by the Kate Hamburger Research Centre (global dis:connect, LMU Munich). The research is cited in the global dis:connect blog.
