When: Thursday, January 30, 2025, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Where: Senior Common Room, 4th Floor, ArtsTwo Building, Queen Mary University of London, Mile End Road, London, E1 4NS

Digital Lives Seminar (with lunch)

Kinga Bloch, Teaching Fellow at the School of History (QMUL), will present her findings from the project Library of Lost Books

This talk aims to provide insights into the design and the practical implementation of the pioneering citizen science project titled Library of Lost Books. The project seeks no less than finding the 60,000 Nazi-looted books of the Hochschule für die Wissenschaft des Judentums (1872-1942). The institute was destroyed, its library was stolen by the Nazis, and the books were dispersed all over the world in the aftermath of the Shoah. The online exhibition about the Hochschule, its vibrant community, and the institute’s library seeks to educate about the little-known Nazi crime of systematic theft of Jewish Libraries across occupied Europe. I will provide an overview of the project and speak about the experiences gathered in bridging the gap between our multi-lingual award-winning online exhibition (Grimme Online Award 2024) and the implementation of a call to action that brings pupils and students to archives and libraries across the globe.

Everyone is welcome! Students are encouraged to join!

The seminar is organised by Digital Lives Programme co-directors Dr Cristina Moreno-Almeida and Dr Delfi Nieto-Isabel and Communications Manager Stephanie Amin.
