Digital Lives seminar with Mohamed Ejjbair: "The Literature of the Great Replacement Theory: How Fiction is Mobilised by the Online Far-Right"

When: Thursday, March 6, 2025, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Where: Senior Common Room, 4th Floor, ArtsTwo Building, Queen Mary University of London, Mile End Road, London, E1 4NS

Digital Lives Seminar (with lunch)

Mohamed Omar-Ejjbair, PhD student in the Comparative Literature department, School of the Arts, at Queen Mary, University of London, will be presenting his initial findings from his research.

The ‘Great Replacement’ is one of the leading far-right conspiracy theories. According to its proponents, global elites are conspiring to replace white Europeans with mass migrating (usually Muslim) populations from the Middle East and Africa. Related to this theory is a group of novels that have been circulating in the online far-right. This presentation takes a look at the role of fiction in advancing the Great Replacement theory and will showcase some examples of how these texts are being mobilized online.

Colleagues celebrating Ramadan are invited to bring a Tupperware and to enjoy their food whenever suits them best. Everyone is welcome! Students are encouraged to join!

The seminar is organised by Digital Lives Programme co-directors Dr Cristina Moreno-Almeida and Dr Delfi Nieto-Isabel and Communications Manager Stephanie Amin.
