Gulmina Rextina
MSc Software Engineering
"I like the way the course is not just theory but targeted towards industry. Even though I want to pursue a lecturer career, the industrial focus will help in my own teaching.
I'm from Pakistan where I did a three-year Batchelor of Computer Science followed by a masters in computer Science. I was working at COMSATS as a lecturer and won a scholarship from there to study for a UK masters.
I was looking forward to coming to the UK as I had been reading lots of English Literature classics so was interested to see what it was really like. I like the way the course is not just theory but targeted towards industry. Previously I had no idea what Human-Computer Interaction was about. We didn't study it in Pakistan. Now I realise that many things I took for granted need a lot of thought to get right, usability-wise."
Najam us Saqib
MSc International Management with Finance
"I chose Queen Mary for my postgraduate study, because it seemed to epitomise affordable quality. Not only were they offering the programme within my budget, but also their ranking in the league tables was impressive.
The subjects offered on my programme are very diverse, and I have met a wide variety of people from all over the world. I find both my lectures and my peers very encouraging, and everyone is always there to guide, which I appreciate. That will be a good memory I’ll take back with me from Queen Mary, along with snow – the first snowfall I ever saw in my life."

MSc International Human Resource Management and Employment Relations
Graduated in 2007
HR Business Partner, Telenor, Pakistan
"I chose the School of Business and Management because I wanted a memorable experience. I wanted to be in a School which had a strong international context and which could offer me an advanced programme. Studying at Queen Mary proved to be very challenging; and importantly, huge emphasis was placed on critical thinking and practicality of issues. The academic staff were actively involved in various policy-oriented projects and offered their full intellectual and research support to students. The experience and knowledge I acquired have a lasting positive impact on my analytical and decision making skills. Maximise your student life experience before you enter into real life where you may have to face many hard times!"
Muhammad Hashim
MSc Investment and Finance
"Queen Mary is one of the few universities which offer the University of London degree and is known for many years for its academic achievements amongst the most prestigious institutions around the world.
I chose to be part of the Queen Mary School of Economics and Finance, which has been doing tremendously well in terms of research work in the last few years. Moreover, the employment rate of QM students is far better than many of its competitor universities. I have been very appreciative of the fact that Queen Mary's standard of teaching and the amount of exposure to numerous activities, both academic and extracurricular, have been above my expectations.
MSc Finance and Investment course had been structured in such a way that it enables students to not only learn the theories behind it but to implement those theories in the practical world or the professional environment. In order to do that, students are kept engaged in course lectures, seminars and lectures on current financial environment. Being one of the course reps for my class, I have been able to learn a lot from my supervisors and my fellow students belonging with diverse backgrounds. In general, till now, Queen Mary has given me the confidence and guidance to explore myself in ways which I never thought of before."
