Legal Advice Centre

Migrant Rights

The Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre offers free legal advice on accommodation, financial support and social care to people seeking asylum and others whose immigration status is unresolved. We can advise:

  • People seeking asylum who wish to apply for accommodation and financial support from the Home Office (‘section 95’ support);
  • People seeking asylum placed in inadequate Home Office accommodation, who would like advice on how to make and evidence a request to be relocated;
  • People seeking asylum and anyone whose immigration status is unresolved who would like advice on asking their local authority to assess and meet their care and support needs (help with washing, dressing, cooking, shopping, for example) under the Care Act 2014.

Due to the nature of the clinic, we are unable to advise on urgent accommodation matters. If you have lost or are in urgent danger of losing your accommodation you may find support by contacting:

Please note that the Centre is unable to advise on immigration issues under this clinic, but can do so separately the Immigration Clinic.

The Centre is unable to advise on asylum applications, however we may be able to provide signposting to other organisations that are able to assist in these matters. You may also find resources and support by contacting:
