Bail Observation Project
The Bail Observation Project is a new project for 2025, led by the Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre.
Students work in pairs to observe immigration bail hearings in the First-tier Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber). This is a valuable opportunity to observe the work of a tribunal and those who work within it, including judges, legal representatives and court staff, and to develop students’ understanding of the immigration system, detention, legal aid and access to justice as well as the use of technology in the civil courts.
The project also aims to identify key themes and issues in how bail hearings are conducted both for represented and unrepresented bail applicants.
