Global Day of Action for Climate Justice 2024

On Monday, the 18th of November 2024, the Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre participated in the 6th Student Law Clinic Global Day of Action for Climate Justice. The theme this year was ‘Water’.

To mark the day of action this year,  QMLAC law students held an event in the Law building focussed around reducing water waste, through a series of actions that provided information and encouraged conversation on the topic.

An information and awareness station was set up in the foyer of the building, where the team encouraged passing individuals to engage in conversations around water and the law. People stopping at the station for a conversation were asked to contribute ideas on different ways in which we could reduce water wastage, to create a collective resource of ideas on how we can be better in this regard.

The team also prepared a treasure-hunt, with different law-related water facts posted on posters in different corridors and areas around the building, highlighting water wastage in different countries around the world and the rights to clean water and sanitation. Each fact was accompanied by a QR code, which provided a clue as to where the next fact was located. The aim of this activity was to raise awareness of water rights around the world, and encourage discussion on the topic for anyone who engaged with the posters individually, or with the treasure-hunt as a whole.

We would like to say a huge thank you to the wonderful and committed team of students who worked hard on the events, and to all the people who engaged with the action on the day, donating their time and ideas to such an important cause.
