How did you find the teaching and learning?

I found that the teaching, and learning, at QMUK was absolutely excellent.  The classroom teaching was of a breadth and depth where my understanding could really grow – and you could study to your heart’s content with the additional reading lists outside of class.  Classes were highly interactive, with students’ opinions sought and debated, to really embed knowledge.

Has gaining a deeper understanding of your specialisation helped your career and how?

I did this LLM at a point in my career where I had worked for a number of years, was looking to move back to the UK and I wanted to embed the practical aspects I had learned “on the job” with more of the academic (and theoretical) principles behind it.  In addition to the core modules, I was able to choose elective modules which I knew would be highly relevant to the disputes and investigations work I regularly do, covering topics such as ESG compliance, AML regulation and corporate crime. Almost five years on, I still find myself referring back to the material I was introduced to on this programme.

What piece of insight or advice would you offer for future students?

I viewed this programme as being not simply an opportunity to study topics that would help me in my career, but also an opportunity to build a network of individuals who will ultimately be in related fields to mine and whom I can lean on for advice and debate throughout my career.
