We provide a range of skills support for taught postgraduate students, particularly around dissertations and research projects.
Dissertation walks for master’s students
The Academic Skills Centre will continue offering dissertation walks to master’s students over the summer. Slots can be booked from our Library Calendar. These walks provide the opportunity for students to talk to tutors about their projects along the canal and in Mile End Park for about 45 minutes. Blue and green spaces foster creativity and help generate creative thinking and these walks will develop those thinking skills necessary for research. The walks are designed to work alongside advice given by your dissertation supervisors.
Masters dissertation drop-in sessions
You can get support with many elements of your dissertation in our in-person drop-in sessions in the Mile End Library. We offer support with things like general organisation, literature searching, structuring, writing up, working with data, and running statistcs.
The sessions are running in the Seminar Room every Wednesday, 2pm-4pm, until the end of August. Find out more on our drop-in information page.
Further support
We run a programme of workshops supporting students doing dissertations. Topics covered include planning, writing, and editing your project, and using SPSS to generate statistics. For more details, and to book, please see our workshops page.
If there are no sessions running at the current time it it still possible to get support by booking a one-to-one appointment, or checking out our online study resources.
You can also access support with academic writing from Studiosity, which is available to all QMUL students.
I have received my dissertation feedback recently. This was the best score that I received throughout the study period! Thank you again! I could not have achieved it without your help— Postgraduate student
