Mile End Library Masters Dissertation Drop-in Sessions

Please note: The Masters dissertation drop-ins are currently not running over the spring break and exam period. They will start on Wednesday 11th of June and then run throughout summer.

If you are looking for support with your Masters dissertation this summer, you can attend one of our in-person drop-in sessions in the Mile End Library. To find out more about the support we offer in these sessions, and when and where they run, please read the sections below.

In our drop-in sessions we aim to support you with all aspects of your dissertation, such as:

Academic Skills – this covers queries relating to planning, writing, and editing your dissertation.

Information Skills – this cover queries relating to finding resources, using databases, and referencing.

Data and Statistics Skills – this covers queries relating to gathering and analysing data and interpreting and presenting results.

If you have a question relating to your dissertation and you don't think it falls into any of these categories please feel free to come along to a sesion and ask us anyway. Alternatively, you can send us an email at academicskills@qmul.ac.uk with an outline of your query.

From the week commecning 9th of June 2025 to the week commecning 25th of August 2025 (inclusively) the drop-in sessions will run every Wednesday from 2pm-4pm in the Seminar Room on the ground floor of the Mile End Library.

A drop-in session is an unstructured session open to all students. There is no need to book onto a drop-in, you can just turn up. In the session there will be an experienced adviser present, with whom you can discuss any issues or queries you have relating to your dissertation.

You can come along to any session you like and stay as long as you like. How you use the session is up to you. You might have a specific question in mind you want to ask the adviser, or you might just want a quiet space to work independently, knowing there is an adviser on hand for if/when you have an issue understanding something. Either way, we encourage you to bring along some tasks to work on whilst you're in the session, as the advisers may all be busy with other students when you arrive and so you might have to wait to talk to one of them.

In general, we will not do work or solve problems for you, and we will not proofread your work. We will instead discuss your work with you to understand what the issues are, offer advice, and ultimately help you to do the work yourself.
