Academic Skills – reading, writing, preparing for exams, time management, and presentation skills.

Information Skills – finding resources, using databases, and referencing

A drop-in session is an unstructured session open to all students at the university. There is no need to book onto a drop-in, you can just turn up. In the session there will be an experienced adviser present, with whom you can discuss any issues or problems you are having with your academic work.

You can come along to any session you like and stay as long as you like. How you use the session is up to you. You might have a specific question in mind you want to ask the adviser, or you might just want a quiet space to work independently, knowing there is an adviser on hand for if/when you have an issue understanding something. Either way, we encourage you to bring along some tasks to work on whilst you're in the session, as the adviser may be busy with another student when you arrive and so you might have to wait to talk to them.

In general, we will not do work or solve problems for you, and we will not proofread your work. We will instead discuss your work with you to understand what the issues are, offer advice, and ultimately help you to do the work yourself.

Yes! Our Peer-Assisted Study Support (PASS) programme is a course-based mentoring scheme, run for students by students. It gives first-years the opportunity to discuss study-related problems and get general advice from higher-year undergraduates in their subject.

Learn more about PASS and find mentors in your school on our PASS - Peer Assisted Study Support at QMUL page.
