Queen Mary Libraries - Changes to Opening Hours
Starting 15 September 2025, the opening hours at our libraries will be changing. 24/7 study spaces will remain available on all campuses.

After a comprehensive review of usage patterns at Mile End Library and Whitechapel Library, and consultations with the Students' Union and Queen Mary faculty, Library Services will be adjusting some library opening hours in line with our sustainability ambitions.
From 15 September 2025, the Mile End Library and Whitechapel Library will be open from 8am to midnight. During busier study periods, Mile End Library will operate on a 24/5 basis.
These changes aim to make better use of resources by aligning opening hours with periods of demand, shortening them during quieter times and extending them when the library is busier, while ensuring students continue to have access to overnight study areas within both library-managed and alternative spaces.
24/7 spaces on campus:
Several 24/7 spaces will remain in operation including Canalside, Garrod Building and the basement of West Smithfield Library
Additionally, the Graduate Centre (for postgraduate research students) is open 24/7.
Online resources and academic support through Studiosity remain accessible at all times.
Opening hours will be on display in the library locations. You can also speak to a member of staff with any queries you may have.
