Journey to Higher Education

Queen Mary is pleased to provide a series of webinars and student panels to support you with your journey to higher education  

Registrations for our new webinars for 2025 are now live!

Our online series of webinars and student panel events aims to support you through the different stages of the application process.

Each session will provide you with information and practical tips to guide you through your journey to higher education. You will get the chance to hear from current Queen Mary students who have been through it all before.

Parents and Carers you will notice specific sessions to help you support your young person throughout their journey to higher education but please feel free to also register for sessions aimed at students.

Below is a list of upcoming webinars and student panels. Feel free to book onto multiple sessions via the registration link listed in the description.

Teachers and advisers are very welcome to attend but are unable to book on behalf of a student or group of students.

Researching Courses and Universities 

Wednesday 7 May 2025, 4.30- 5.30pm (BST)

In this session, we will explore different university and course options after school and college and how to make the right choice for you.

We will cover:

  • How to research your options
  • Questions to ask yourself when considering choices
  • Tips on how to make the right choice for you 
  • Useful resources to help with your decision making 

We will be joined by current Queen Mary students and hear how they researched their options and why they chose to study at Queen Mary.

Degree Apprenticeships Q&A Panel

Wednesday 21 May 2025, 4.30 - 5.30pm (BST)

Join us in this online talk which will explore Degree Apprenticeships including what they are and how to apply
We will cover:
  • What makes up a Degree Apprenticeship
  • How to research your options
  • The application steps
  • The differences between a Degree Apprenticeship and a Degree
  • Insights into some of Queen Mary's Apprenticeship courses

This session is aimed at year 12 and 13 students

Writing Your Personal Statement

Wednesday 4 June 2025, 4.30 - 5.30pm (BST)

Join us in this session to help refine your personal statement. This session will focus on how you can perfect your personal statement ready to submit for the UCAS deadline.

We will cover:

  • The new structure for the Personal Statement
  • How to prepare for each section
  • Key characteristics of successful statements and how they are used
  • Examples responses and practical tips to help provide a competitive edge

We will be joined by current Queen Mary students who will share their tips and advice on how to write a fantastic personal statement!

Making the transition to University

Wednesday 18 June 2025 - 4.30- 5.30pm (BST)

This webinar will help you to understand the differences between learning at school and university and consider the essential skills required to be successful in higher education. This sessions will provide you with the skills and resources to help you become an effective independent learner which you can adopt in your current and future studies.
You will learn about:
  • How learning is different at university compared to school, college and sixth form.
  • Discover different teaching methods at university
  • Learn how you can develop specific skills to support your learning
  • Learn how to manage your time and organise your work
  • Learn about your own skills and how you learn best​

Support Services for Students at University

This session will outline the various support services available for academic support, student wellbeing and disability support at university. You will discover how you can make the most of your time at university and realise your potential by accessing student support services.
We will cover:
  • The types of support available to you at university
  • Academic support whilst you are studying
  • Life as a student - going to university with a disability
  • Support for neurodivergent students
  • Support living on campus
We will be joined by Disability and Dyslexia Support Services, Welfare Advice and students who will be able to answer any of your questions about studying at Queen Mary.

Preparing for Clearing and Results Day

Are you looking for more information about the Results, Confirmation and Clearing processes? This webinar will help you to understand how Clearing works.
