What attracted you to your course at Queen Mary?

With an undergraduate background in Political Science and International Relations from Italy, I was eager to continue my studies abroad, particularly in the UK. I sought a programme that combined business with my previous studies, and I found this unique course at Queen Mary. At the time (2017), it was one of the few programmes in Europe, alongside the one offered by Copenhagen Business School, that integrated international business and politics. This combination made it my top choice.

Where do you currently work and what does this include?

I am the Director of the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) Department at Giambrone & Partners, an international law firm. In my role, I oversee the firm’s expansion in these markets, managing operations through our offices in Casablanca, Tunis, and soon Riyadh. On a day-to-day basis, I am responsible for identifying new business opportunities, fostering client relationships, and ensuring that our regional strategy is effectively implemented. I also support and guide the teams in our strategic offices to align their efforts with our business goals.

How did your time and study at Queen Mary help you decide the career path you wanted to pursue?

My time at Queen Mary was instrumental in shaping my career path. The programme equipped me with essential knowledge and skills needed to thrive in a professional environment, particularly in the international law firm where I now work. I gained both practical and theoretical insights into international business, politics, and law, which are vital in today’s globalised market. The skills I developed, including critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication, have been essential in transitioning smoothly into my current career. Networking opportunities at Queen Mary also played a key role in guiding me toward this professional path.

Do you have a favourite spot on campus?

One of my favorite spots on campus was Drapers Bar, where I often met friends for a drink after class. It was a great place to relax and socialise. I also appreciated the Graduate Centre, where most of our classes were held. It was modern, technologically advanced, and provided a conducive environment for postgraduate study, enhancing the overall learning experience.

How was your time in London when studying? Do you feel being in the city helped your career prospects?

My time in London was one of the most enriching experiences of my life. Academically, it exceeded my expectations. The city was dynamic, full of opportunity, and buzzing with energy, particularly in the financial district, which is the heart of Europe’s financial hub. Prior to returning to Italy, I worked in the education sector, gaining invaluable professional experience that helped shape my career.

Do you have any advice for prospective students about a career in Politics?

For anyone considering a career in international business, law, or politics, I would advise making the most of the resources available at university. Networking with peers, professors, and industry professionals is vital, as these connections often prove invaluable in the future. Additionally, Queen Mary’s diverse international environment provides an excellent platform for developing a global perspective, which is crucial in today’s interconnected world.

I would also emphasise the importance of embracing new experiences and challenges, as these are what ultimately shape your career and personal development. Reflecting on my time there, I am grateful for the solid foundation Queen Mary provided for my future endeavors.
