Returning to Judgment: Bernard Stiegler and Continental Political Theory

When: Wednesday, January 29, 2025, 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM
Where: BLOC Cinema, ArtsOne Building, Mile End

Join TheoryLAB as we hear from Ben Turner (University of Kent), author of Returning to Judgement: Bernard Stiegler and Continental Political Theory, in conversation with Professor Ian James (University of Cambridge).

Bernard Stiegler was primarily known as a philosopher of technology, but he was deeply concerned with the political consequences of contemporary technological change. His significance for political theory, however, is still underdeveloped.

This panel considers the ongoing relevance of his work for theories of the political through a critical discussion of Ben Turner’s monograph Returning to Judgment: Bernard Stiegler and Continental Political Theory (State University of New York Press). The panel will begin with an introduction to the political stakes of Stiegler’s philosophy from Ben Turner, followed by a response to Returning to Judgement by Professor Ian James (University of Cambridge) and a reply by the author. A reception will follow.
