Research Topic: My PhD research examines the tensions between the design of space through urban planning practices and discourses, and the appropriation and subversion of urban space through everyday practices in Rio de Janeiro, commonly referred to as a “global city”. By studying everyday life, I hope to understand the interconnections and multiple forms of enactment of the “urban” and the “international” through ordinary and often fleeting practices and moments. I aim to employ experimental theoretical-methodological tools, such as walking, ethnography, narrative approaches, and geopoetics, to analyse how marginal spaces in an urban environment can provide new perspectives on international spatiality and the kinds of politics they put into motion.

Supervisors: Jef Huysmans; Mirko Palestrino

Research Interests: My research interests are: International Political Sociology, Critical Urban Studies, International Relations Theory, Cartography, Narrative approaches to international politics, International In/security, Power and Resistance. I am also interested in multiple modes of autonomous political composition and organisation.
